The Mustang Turnaround

Lorenzo & Coors

A Program Designed by Lorenzo Pierucci to help increase adoptability of Wild Horses in efforts to give these animals a second chance. The forefront mascot being his very own mustang, Coors.

The Program

Wild Horses are a staple of the American West. These animals have been roaming the wilderness of the United States since the Conquistadors introduced them to our continent over 500 years ago. Centuries of natural selection and hardy bloodlines have produced the sturdy American Mustang.

The Bar BR Mustang Turnaround Program focuses on giving these horses a second chance. The Bureau of Land Management has worked diligently to offer many different opportunities themselves to rehome these horses, however, realistically in this day and age there are two major factors that cause these horses to be looked over.

#1 Properly training a horse takes a lot of experience. The intricacies of understanding the mind of a horse goes far beyond treats. These animals learn quickly and it is easier to teach a bad habit than to fix one. That being said, not every individual that wants a horse can simply acquire one and train it to the standard of which they desire.

#2 Training a horse is not only an advanced skill, it is time consuming. Not many people have the time to spend hours every day training their new wild horse. However, The Bar BR does.

Young horses start their training just a few days after they've safely settled into their new environment and they are worked daily for 12 months; consistency is key. The repetition allows these animals to retain the previous lesson and build upon it, giving them the greatest chance at success possible.
