Head on down to the Buckskin Ranch here in Almaden Valley of San Jose, CA to learn everything you need to know about Adopting, Training, and Riding your very own Wild Mustang! These horses have proven hardy for hundreds of years and they have over 500 years of evolution backing them through the harshest climates and terrain! The adoption fee for one of these animals through the BLM as of 2021 is ONLY $25! For this small fee you could have a horse that far exceeds any other in performance. So why not save the $10,000 for something else and give one of these beautiful animals a loving home and a solid purpose?

CRASH COURSE APPLICATION

Curriculum

We will cover the following:

 

  •  The complete adoption process (the application, picking a horse, preparation and pick up) 

  • Arrival and Acclimation

  • Introduction to the training pen and first steps of building trust

  • Round Penning

  • Proper Introduction to Groundwork and reading body language

  • Drawing the Horse’s attention to you 

  • Roping the horse PROPERLY 

  • DESENSITIZATION

  • Introduction to Gentling - Touching the horse

  • Gaining trust and building the horse’s confidence through groundwork and queues 

  • Grooming the Mustang

  • How to pick up hooves without being kicked

  • Introducing new items to your mustang SAFELY (Flags, Bags, Barrels, etc.)

  • Teaching a horse to stand tied SAFELY while building confidence

  • Jeffries Method- Human Curry Comb climb on horse and get him used to you (NOT Riding)

  • Introducing the horse to a pad and saddle

  • Lunging with the saddle and pad 

  • Introducing the Bit or Hackamore

  • Mounting the Horse

  • Introduction to Riding 

  • Covering Walk, Trot, Stop, Lope

  • Repetition
